LSU Law Center Names 2014 Distinguished Alumnus and Achievement Honorees

The LSU Law Center honored Cordell H. Haymon (’68) as the 2014 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and the Honorable James J. “Jim” Brady (’69), Maryam Sabbaghian Brown (’00), Craig W. Murray (’76) and Patrick S. Ottinger (’73) for Distinguished Achievement at an awards luncheon on Sunday, September 21, at the Lod Cook Conference Center.

Constitution Day Program: September 17

September 15, 2014

In commemoration of this year’s Constitution Day on Wednesday, September 17—marking the 227th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution—Professors Paul Baier, John Devlin, and Michael Coenen will offer a look back at the Supreme Court’s previous Term and a preview of the upcoming Term.  The discussion will take place in Room 110 at 12:40 p.m. Among other things, the discussion will cover: Bond v. United States, regarding the scope of the Chemical Weapons Convention Implementation Act of 1998. Schuette v. BAMN, regarding the constitutionality of a statewide ban on the use of race-conscious admissions policies by public universities.…

Law Center Announces $800,000 J. Bennett Johnston Science Foundation Gift Supporting the Laborde Energy Law Center

September 12, 2014

LSU Law Center Chancellor Jack M. Weiss today announced an $800,000 gift from the J. Bennett Johnston Science Foundation to the LSU John P. Laborde Energy Law Center. The gift establishes the J. Bennett Johnston Energy Law Endowment Fund in honor of Senator Johnston and will support student internships and field placements in energy law and policy. The fund will serve as a challenge fund for the Law Center’s $20 million Energy Law Center fundraising campaign.

More Access to JSTOR Titles

The Law Library is pleased to announce that, through collaboration with the LSU Libraries, our access to JSTOR titles has tripled with the addition of six new collections. Law Center students, faculty and staff now have access to Arts & Sciences VI, Arts & Sciences VIII, Arts & Sciences IX, Arts & Sciences X, Arts & Sciences XI, and The Ireland Collection, increasing the total access to more than 1800 unique journal titles. Introducing Stack Map

The law library is pleased to announce the addition of Stack Map to the library’s catalog. Stack Map provides an easy way to see exactly where in the library a book is located. Once you’ve found an item in the library catalog, click on the   icon next to the call number and location and a map will appear showing where the item is located. With Stack Map, patrons can now find library materials easier and faster!
