I’m contacting you today on behalf of the LSU Law Center Board of Advocates. As many of you are aware, the Board of Advocates sponsors a number of internal advocacy competitions throughout the academic year at the LSU Law Center. These internal competitions provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills as persuasive advocates before professionals in the legal community. Immigration Law Clinic celebrates successful asylum claims during summer, spring semesters

LSU Law’s Immigration Clinic celebrated successful asylum claims during the summer and spring semester. Over the summer, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services approved two Immigrant Relative Petitions filed by LSU Law student Justin Spears (’19) for one of the Turkish individuals for whom the Clinic won asylum in the spring. Also this summer, after seven months in limbo, the New Orleans Asylum Office granted asylum to two more Turkish citizens. This approval brings the Immigration Law Clinic’s asylum record up to 23 for 23. During the Spring 2018 Semester students won asylum for 11 immigrants who fled gang and…

Procertas Workshops

Procertas provides online training modules for essential skills in MS Word, MS Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.  In addition to the training modules, Procertas provides assessment modules that test your ability to perform the essential tasks efficiently.  Once you complete the assessment modules, you will receive digital badges indicating that you are a Certified Operator of Basic Office Technology (COBOT). Procertas is available to all LSU Law students.  The Law Library will host monthly workshops for those who want assistance in completing the training and assessment modules in Procertas. LSU Law’s Phi Alpha Delta chapter earns four awards at the annual convention

August 20, 2018

LSU Law’s Edward D. White Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta took home four awards – includuing first place for the most improved chapter – at the annual Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity Convention from Aug. 8-12 in Lexington, Ky. The Law Center’s chapter earned Most Improved Law School Chapter for the 2017-18 Academic Year. In addition, LSU Law’s Chris Guelzow won the Paul Meier Award for Outstanding Law School Vice Justice, and Nicholas Algero placed second for the Alex A. The LSU Law Center would like to thank the section leaders and faculty members who donated their time at the 2018 Trial Advocacy Program from Aug. 6-8. The Trial Advocacy Program gives third-year LSU Law students a “learn by doing” education that simulates actual trial skills under the experienced eyes of the select seminar faculty. From cross examination to voir dire jury selection, students role play and receive critiques from some of the nation’s leading experts in courtroom practices during the intensive three-day program.
