Professor Bill Corbett elected Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers

Louisiana Judicial College Faculty Advisor William R. Corbett, Frank L. Maraist Professor of Law and Wex S. Malone Professor of Law at LSU School of Law, was named a 2018 Fellow by the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers. LSU Law Dean Tom Galligan receives James Huntington Odom and Patricia Kleinpeter Odom Professorship

LSU Law Dean Tom Galligan Jr. received the James Huntington Odom and Patricia Kleinpeter Odom Professorship, approved by Louisiana State University Office of Academic Affairs. Galligan took over as Dean of the LSU Law Center in July 2016, after previously serving as president of Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H., from 2006-16 and dean of the University of Tennessee College of Law from 1998-2006. LSU Law student Jacob Cunningham awarded Energy & Mineral Law Foundation scholarship

LSU Law 3L student Jacob Cunningham was awarded a scholarship by the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation for the 2018-19 academic year, announced during the EMLF's Board of Trustees Meeting on Sunday. Cunningham is one of only 10 students to be awarded such a scholarship by EMLF for 2018-19, and the $4,000 scholarship awarded to him is larger than the average scholarship granted by EMLF. Earlier this year, Cunningham also earned a scholarship from the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation for the 2018-19 academic year. LSU's Immigration Law Clinic successfully argues for clients seeking asylum, lawful status during Spring semester

The LSU ImmigrationLaw Clinic successfully advocated for 13 clients during the Spring 2018 semester. Students fought for and were granted asylum for eleven individuals – six from Turkey, three from Honduras and two from Bangladesh. Students receive academic honors for Spring 2018 Semester

The LSU Law Center has announced the names of those law students who earned academic honors for the Spring 2018 semester. Fifty-one students were awarded the Paul M. Hebert Scholar honor, and 76 students were selected to be Dean’s Scholars. The Paul M. Hebert Scholar is awarded to the top 10 percent and the Dean’s Scholar is awarded to the top 25 percent of LSU Law students earning 12 or more semester hours of credit in courses taken at the Law Center. Frank X. Neuner, Jr. ('76) named to National Legal Services Corporation

LSU Law Class of 1976 alumnus Frank Neuner was named to the Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), the nation’s single largest provider of legal assistance grants for low-income Americans. “Frank Neuner’s extensive work ensuring low-income individuals in Louisiana have access to legal services makes him an excellent choice for this position,” Sen. LSU Law mourns the passing of student Adam Dows

Colleagues and Students, It is with great sadness that I share with you the passing of one of our current students. We learned earlier this week that Mr. Adam Dows, a rising 3L, passed away very unexpectedly this past weekend. According to his family, he suffered an aneurysm and passed in his sleep. His funeral will be held this Saturday, June 9 at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, with visitation beginning at 9 am and services immediately following at 11 am. LSU Law No. 40 in in latest Above the Law national rankings

The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center continues its climb in national law school rankings with its latest top-50 spot in the 2018 Above the Law rankings. The LSU Law Center is ranked No. 40 by Above the Law, which bases its scores on employment data, tuition and cost, job placement and student debt. LSU was not ranked in the 50-school list last year and was No. 41 in 2016. LSU Law 2018 graduate Sara Kuebel was selected as the recipient of the school’s American Law Institute CLE Scholarship & Leadership Award. Each year, law schools are invited by the American Law Institute to select a student for the award, which recognizes the law student in the graduating class who best represents a combination of scholarship and leadership. I still remember the day, Aug. 17, 2017, when we got to pick our clients. As one of two 3Ls in the Parole and Reentry Clinic, I got first pick from all the clients. One of the clients, Henry Montgomery, was an instant hit with all of the students because of his historical importance.1 However, the client that stuck out the most to me was Frederick Thomas. Sixteen students were elected to membership in The Order of the Coif, a national honorary law fraternity that elects to membership students from the highest 10 percent of the third-year class. Inductees were honored in a separate ceremony at the Law Center prior to commencement. For the first time, LSU Law named nine students to the Order of the Barristers, a national honorary organization that promotes oral advocacy and brief writing skills through effective law school oral advocacy programs. 16 LSU Law students selected for induction into The Order of the Coif

Sixteen members of the LSU Law Class of 2018 were inducted into The Order of the Coif in a ceremony June 1 in the McKernan Auditorium. The Order of the Coif is a national honorary law fraternity. The Louisiana chapter was established in 1942, and its purpose is to stimulate scholarly work of the highest order and to foster and promote a high standard of professional conduct.
