LSU Law 2019 graduate MJ Hernandez recipient of American Law Institute CLE Scholarship & Leadership Award

LSU Law 2019 graduate MJ Hernandez was selected as the recipient of the school’s American Law Institute CLE Scholarship & Leadership Award. Each year, law schools are invited by the American Law Institute to select a student for the award, which recognizes the law student in the graduating class who best represents a combination of scholarship and leadership. Hernandez, from Mandeville, graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the national honorary law fraternity The Order of the Coif. 10 LSU Law students inducted into The Order of the Barristers

Ten members of the LSU Law Class of 2019 were inducted May 22 into the Order of the Barristers during a ceremony in the Robinson Courtroom. The Order of Barristers is a national honorary organization whose purpose is the encouragement of oral advocacy and brief writing skills through effective law school oral advocacy programs. Students who have excelled in moot court, mock trial, brief writing, oral advocacy, and other advocacy programs throughout their time at the LSU Law Center are selected to join the Order. 17 LSU Law students elected to the Order of the Coif

Seventeen members of the LSU Law Class of 2019 were inducted into The Order of the Coif in a ceremony May 24 in the McKernan Auditorium. The Order of the Coif is a national honorary law fraternity. The Louisiana chapter was established in 1942, and its purpose is to stimulate scholarly work of the highest order and to foster and promote a high standard of professional conduct. LSU Law named one of the best law schools for black students by Lawyers of Color

The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center was named one of the best law schools for black students by Lawyers of Color in the third edition of the "Black Student's Guide to Law Schools & Firms." “Because studies have shown African Americans have different legal career trajectories than their peers, it is imperative they be equipped with information and tools that can help them succeed. LSU Law announces hiring of mental health wellness professional for students

The LSU Law Center announces the hiring of Anne Catherine Seemann as its mental health wellness professional to be housed at the Law Center. Seemann earned her master’s degree in social work from LSU in 2007 and has more than a decade of experience in providing counseling and wellness services. She has worked as a licensed clinical social worker and support coordinator at the Our Lady of the Lake Mid City Clinic since 2016. “We are delighted to have Catherine coming on board,” LSU Law Dean Tom Galligan said. Professor Lisa Avalos awarded LSU International Scholar Research/Arts & Performance Grant

The LSU Internationalization Grants Committee recommended for funding Professor Lisa Avalos‘ proposal titled “She must be lying to us! Rape, Disbelieved Victims, and the Politics of Charging Victims with False Reporting (England).” The proposal was recommended under the category “LSU International Scholar Research/Arts & Performance Grant.” Funding will support her collaborative research on rape crimes in London, England. Hebert Law Center announces the establishment of the Endowed Chair in Maritime Law thanks to a gift made by the Dodson & Hooks, APLC law firm. “The appointment to an academic chair is among the most prestigious of university honors. Fourth Floor Closed for Renovation

May 6, 2019

The LSU Law Library has scheduled a renovation of the fourth floor that will involve asbestos abatement. The renovation will take place beginning May 7th, with the asbestos abatement scheduled to last through the end of August. In accordance with state and federal regulations, an asbestos inspection was performed, and a licensed and accredited asbestos abatement contractor will be performing abatement. The removal of asbestos is done under stringently controlled conditions designed to protect others within the building, as well as the asbestos abatement workers. LSU Law makes LLM Guide top 10 list for energy law and budget

LLM Guide ranked the LSU Law Center’s LL.M. program as a Top 10 Budget LL.M. in the USA and Top LL.M. Program for Energy Law 2019.
