May 21, 2018

In the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans sits Louisiana’s highest court. Outside, a monument of Edward Douglas White, a U.S. senator and head of the federal court, stands in front of the century-old, white marble and terra-cotta building. Inside, a dark wooden bench for seven judges sits in front of a curved wall of white pillars and windows overlooking the famed New Orleans neighborhood. The building has been written about many times by architecture and design magazines, but those who argue in front of the Louisiana Supreme Court have two words to describe the building. “It is…

May 15, 2018

Scardulla said she received glowing feedback from students about the effectiveness of the workshop in preparing them for professional, legal work. “The format, content, and presentation were great. The series was a wonderful supplement to the knowledge I previously accrued as a legal assistant,” said…

LSU moot court teams cap off banner year with three national championships

May 11, 2018

One moot court national championship in an academic year is reason to celebrate. Two national championships are bragging rights for the year. Three national championships in one year bring unprecedented excitement to a moot court and trial advocacy program on its way up. Kuebel, who will graduate this June and work in maritime law, said these competitions have given her real trial experiences that law students can’t get in a classroom. By traveling and meeting students from law schools across the U.S., she said she got to connect with other future lawyers who will also practice in maritime law and…

LSU Law Moot Court program ranked 25th by Blakely Advocacy Institute

May 1, 2018

The LSU Law Moot Court program is ranked No. 25 in the nation in the 2017-18 rankings of moot court programs by the Blakely Advocacy Institute at the University of Houston Law Center. The rankings are based on competition results throughout the academic year. This year, LSU Law teams won three national championships — the most titles won in an academic year at LSU since 2006. "This ranking is the result of a banner year for our appellate advocacy (“moot court”) teams, but it doesn’t look at the success of our trial, alternative dispute resolution, and transactional teams," said LSU Law professor Jeff Brooks,…
