184 Students Receive Degrees at 2015 LSU Law Center Commencement Ceremonies

The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center awarded degrees to 184 students during Commencement ceremonies held today at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, according to LSU Law Chancellor and Dean, Jack M. Weiss. Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, delivered the Commencement address. The LSU Law Center conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws upon the Honorable James L. Dennis (’62), Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Louisiana Law Review Moves Up in Law School Journal Rankings

Since 1938, the Louisiana Law Review has served as Louisiana’s flagship legal journal and has become a vibrant forum for scholarship in comparative and civil law topics. The journal was recently ranked #180 out of some 1,300 journals published by the nation’s law schools. The rankings were released by the Law Journal Rankings Project, an annual assessment conducted by Washington and Lee University School of Law. The Louisiana Law Review moved up seven spots from last year.

LSU Law Student Published in Law Journals

Third-year LSU Law student R. Kyle Alagood has recently published two scholarly articles. The first, Parole Release Hearings: The Fallacy of Discretion was published in Volume 5 of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law Journal on Gender, Race, and Justice. The second article, Settlement Confidentiality: A Fracking Disaster for Public Health and Safety, is in the May 2015 issue of Environmental Law Reporter.

LSU Law Center’s Moot Court Program Rises in the Rankings

The LSU Law Center’s Moot Court Program has moved up seven spots to #40 in the nation in rankings released by the Blakely Advocacy Institute for the 2014-15 academic year. The LSU Law Center has one of the largest law student advocacy skills training programs in the country. The Law Center’s Advocacy Programs provide students with an exceptional array of opportunities to develop their skills as persuasive advocates.
