River Bend Tour Provides Insight Into Nuclear Industry
November 20, 2014When LSU Law student Lauren Heinen (’15) learned of the opportunity to visit River Bend Nuclear Station in St. Francisville on November 5, she jumped at the chance. Coordinated by Professors Bob Sloan and Keith Hall, the field trip provided the students with insight into light water technology, uranium enrichment, fuel rod fabrication, the handling of spent fuel, and plant decommissioning, among others.

Students Get Inside Look at Shell Oil
November 18, 2014One of the world’s leading energy companies, Shell Oil, opened its doors on November 14, 2014, to 15 LSU Law students interested in careers in the energy sector. LSU Law alumnus J. Patrick Morris, Jr. (‘97), Senior Counsel, Upstream Americas Exploration, organized the tour of Shell’s state-of-the art training facility located in Robert, LA. Joining Morris in organizing the tour was fellow alumnus, J.T. Nesser, IV (’99), Shell’s Senior Legal Counsel, Upstream Americas - Deep Water.

Powder Puff Football Game Benefits Breast Cancer Research
November 12, 2014On November 10, members of the LSU Law Center’s Powder Puff Football Team presented Kaitlyn Guerin of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center with a check in the amount $2,385.00 to benefit the Geaux Pink campaign. Led by Stephanie Frederick (’15), Mary Allen (’15) and Carmen Liriano (’15), the proceeds from the annual flag football game between 2L and 3L female law students and the auction benefit breast cancer research.

LSU Law Students Give Supplies and Time to Local Animal Shelter
November 12, 2014The animals at a local animal shelter received treats from LSU Law students on Halloween! Led by the efforts of the LSU Law chapter of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, LSU Law students and staff recently donated dog food, cat food, treats, cat litter, flea and tick medicine, toys, leashes, collars, one ramp for elderly dogs and even a “cone of shame,” to the shelter. In addition to the donation of goods, the law students also volunteered time at the shelter. November 12, 2014On November 18, LSU Law alums Robert Savage (’10) and Franz Borghardt (’06) will present, “Careers in Criminal Law.” Sponsored by the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers at LSU, the presentation will take place in room 110 at 12:40 p.m. The discussion will focus on careers available in criminal law, as well as opportunities available while still in law school.
