LSU Law students place as National Quarterfinalists at Civil Rights Trial Competition in New York

A team of four LSU Law students placed among the top eight teams in the U.S. at the Peter James Johnson National Civil Rights Trial Competition, which was held at the New York State Supreme Court for Nassau County in Mineola, New York, on Oct. 26-28. The LSU Law team—Kaylin Jolivette, Alexander Logan, Anthony McDonald and Christopher Versak—finished the competition as National Quarterfinalists. Melissa and Robert Rabalais (‘89) establish endowment to benefit Energy Law Program

Robert Rabalais (’89), a Partner in the Houston office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, and his wife, Melissa, have made one of the largest scholarship gifts ever received by the Law Center. The Melissa and Robert Rabalais Energy Law Endowment Fund is among the top five largest scholarship funds held by the Law Center for the benefit of its students. The historic gift was announced by LSU Law Dean Tom Galligan at 30-year reunion celebration for the Class of 1989, which was held on Friday, Oct. 25. ‘Louisiana Law Review’ and ‘Journal of Energy Law and Resources’ set 2020 symposium dates, subjects

The dates and subjects for the annual symposiums hosted by LSU Law’s student-edited journals have been finalized, with an examination of the American jury system and an exploration of water resources law set to take place early next year. On Friday, Jan. 24, the Journal of Energy Law and Resources will welcome professors and scholars from across the country to discuss issues regarding water resources law. ABA Arbitration Competition regional event bringing law students from six states to LSU Law

Roughly 40 law students from schools in six states outside Louisiana will converge at the LSU Law Center this week for a regional round of the American Bar Association Arbitration Competition. Twelve teams—including one from LSU Law—will compete in 10 rooms at the LSU Law Center between Thursday and Saturday evening. The top two teams will advance to the national finals in Chicago on Jan 14-15, 2020. 2019 Reunion Weekend brings hundreds of LSU Law alumni, students together

The 2019 Reunion Weekend was a major success, bringing hundreds of LSU Law alumni and students together for a weekend of celebrations on Oct. 25-26. Reunion Weekend events kicked off on Friday, Oct. 25, with a pair of CLE classes on ethics and professionalism, presented by alumni James A. Brown and Skip Philips, respectively. Later that evening graduates from the classes of 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, and 2009 celebrated their reunions at the Capitol Park Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. At a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Environmental Law Institute honored LSU Law Professor Nick Bryner with an Environmental Futures Award, which the nonprofit presents to "the next generation of leaders striving to address the environmental challenges of tomorrow." Second-year LSU Law students Mary Katherine Loos and Emiley Dillon won the 2019 Tullis Moot Court Competition at the finals event held on Monday evening, Oct. 21. Along with having their names inscribed on the Tullis plaque located outside of the Robinson Courtroom—where the final round of competition was held—they will also be invited to be members of the Board of Advocates next year. LSU Law rises to No. 12 in 2019 ranking of Best Value Law Schools

For the 11th straight year, LSU Law is ranked among the nation’s Best Value Law Schools by preLaw magazine. LSU Law students achieve Louisiana’s highest pass rate on July 2019 bar exam

With 84.38% of its students passing the Louisiana State Bar Exam, LSU Law had the highest pass rate of all Louisiana law schools on the July 2019 exam, according to results released Oct. 4 by the Committee on Bar Admission of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
