Chancellor Holds Student Town Hall Meeting

"We're in the student opportunity business," remarked Law Chancellor Jack Weiss as he addressed students gathered for the first student town hall meeting on October 23. Weiss spoke to approximately 65 students who gathered for the first of two forums planned this academic year. The Chancellor described efforts by the administration to become even more "student focused" and to expand opportunities for student involvement at the Law Center. Weiss announced several new initiatives including a new student advisory board, a Young Alumni Leadership Council comprised of graduates representing the past ten years, and efforts to expand student field placement programs.…

Law Center Attracts Many Out-of-State Students

The number of out-of-state students enrolled in the Paul M. Hebert Law Center's first-year class increased by 6 percent this year. Law Center enrollment has experienced several shifts over the past few years, including an increase in the percentage of out-of-state students and a lower total number of applicants. LSU Law Students Achieve State’s Highest Passage Rate on July 2007 Bar Exam

LSU Law Center students achieved the highest passage rate among all examinees on the latest Louisiana State Bar Exam, according to results released today by the Committee on Bar Admissions for the Supreme Court of Louisiana. LSU Law students continued their traditional first place passage rate, with 76.7 % of examinees receiving passing scores on the July 2007 administration of the Bar. One hundred forty-six LSU Law Center students took the exam in July 2007 and 112, or 76.7%, successfully passed the Bar. Judge Paul B. Landry, Jr. Commemorative Luncheon

Pictured above are scholarship recipients Christina Welch and Carrie Stroder with Chancellor Jack Weiss during the Judge Paul B. Landry, Jr. Commemorative Luncheon. Chancellor Jack M. Weiss held a special luncheon in September to honor the memory of the late Judge Paul B. Landry, Jr. and acknowledge his unprecedented gift of $1.13 million to the Law Center. Judge Landry was a 1936 graduate of the LSU Law Center. Prior to his death in 1998, Landry established a charitable remainder trust leaving the LSU Law Center as one of the beneficiaries of the trust proceeds. The Landry bequest is the largest…
