Richala Jackson represented LSU Law as one of the 14 students selected to be among this year’s LSU Homecoming Court, and the third-year law student served as an ambassador for the university at events held throughout the week leading up to the Homecoming game against Florida on Saturday, Oct. 16.

“I had such an amazing time. I’m getting teary-eyed just thinking about it,” said Jackson. “The only word I can use to describe the experience on Saturday is magical—and being able to represent the Law Center as I walked out onto the field with the other students made it all the more special. I was just through the roof.”

Family members and friends of the Fayette, Mississippi native were on hand at the game to cheer on Jackson, as were many of the close friends she has made at LSU Law. Prior to the game, Jackson joined her fellow third-year law students at the Law Center as they prepared for the annual Hats ‘n Canes toast. While Jackson did not have time to participate in the toast due to her obligations on the Homecoming Court, her classmates have assured her that they’ll recreate the toast in the coming weeks so she can take part in the celebration.

Students are selected for the Homecoming Court based on an application and interview process, through which the university seeks representatives who have positively contributed to the LSU community through leadership, service, and spirit.

Jackson served as President of the Black Students Law Association last year and currently serves as the student organization’s Director of Programming. She is also an LSU Law student ambassador, a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, and a member of BlackOutLSU. She is a 2019 graduate of Fisk University, where she earned her B.A. in biology, and she plans to join the law firm of Paul Hastings in Houston as a corporate associate after she graduates from LSU Law next spring.
