LSU Law ranked No. 25 among US law schools for first-time bar pass rate

LSU Law’s first-time bar pass rate in 2018 was nearly 15 percentage points higher than the national average, 74.8%.

When it comes to putting its graduates in the best position to pass the bar exam on their first try, LSU Law is among the very best law schools in the U.S.

With 89.1% of its graduates passing the bar on their first attempt last year, LSU Law is ranked No. 25 on a new ranking of “The Top 50 Law Schools By First-Time Bar Exam Pass Rates” from Above The Law and Themis Bar Review.

“Recognition is always nice.” says LSU Law Dean Tom Galligan, “and the most important and gratifying thing is our students’ success.”

LSU Law’s first-time bar pass rate in 2018 was nearly 15 percentage points higher than the national average, 74.8%. That’s especially significant considering that, as Above The Law notes, “bar exam pass rates across the country have plummeted” in recent years, hitting a 34-year low in 2018.

“For prospective law students, bar exam pass rates should be pretty close to the top of the list of things to research—right along with employment statistics and average graduate indebtedness—when deciding which law schools to apply to and which law school to eventually enroll at after being accepted,” Above The Law reports.

Not only did LSU Law have the highest bar pass rate of any law school in Louisiana last year, 91% of its 2018 graduates were employed as of 10 months after graduation.

LSU Law is among just four SEC law schools included in the new rankings, and it’s the second-highest ranked law school in the conference. Vanderbilt is ranked No. 9, Alabama is No. 27 and Missouri is No. 37. See the full rankings.
