Hon. Toni Higginbotham, Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal; Elizabeth Merrill, Solicitor General of Louisiana; and Hon. John W. deGravelles, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Louisiana, were among those who served as judges during the 2019 Dean’s Cup Competition.

The LSU Law Board of Advocates is seeking Baton Rouge attorneys who can serve as judges for the annual Dean’s Cup Moot Court Competition at the LSU Law Center in March.

Judges are needed for five rounds of the competition taking place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on March 9, 10, 11, 16 and 18. Attorneys can serve as a judge for single or multiple rounds of the competition.

The Dean’s Cup Competition is an appellate advocacy competition in which second-year and third-year law students compete individually. The competition simulates oral argument before the U.S. Supreme Court in currently pending cases. Judges serve on a bench listening to the case, asking questions and providing feedback to participants.

The competition provides law students with the opportunity to develop their skills as persuasive advocates before professionals in the legal community and receive feedback that will benefit their development as legal professionals.

Attorneys interested in serving as a judge can sign up online. If you have any issues signing up or any questions about serving as a judge, please contact the LSU Law Board of Advocates at advocacyprogram@lsu.edu.
