LSU Law Center Hosts Law Firm Information Day

Representatives from law firms all across the South as well as a few military branches were in attendance as the LSU Law Center hosted its first Law Firm Information Day on Monday in the Student Lounge.

More than a dozen firms specializing from admiralty to zoning laws had representatives at the LSU Law Center Law Firm Information Day

Sponsored by the LSU Law Center Career Services, the event allowed students the opportunity meet with law firms and network with possible employers in a more casual and relaxed setting than typical on-campus interviews.

“It was a great exposure opportunity for us to meet students who we would not necessarily meet through a typical on-campus interview process,” said Amy Harang of Liskow & Lewis.

Students got the opportunity to discuss all work opportunities from summer internships to full-time employment following graduation.

“Our firm has a great relationship with LSU Law Center, and we were pleased to come and interact and meet and greet with the students,” said Adam Thames of Taylor Porter. “We recruit Louisiana law schools first and foremost, and it’s important for us to be here. This is a great way for us to meet some of these students.”

More than a dozen firms specializing from admiralty to zoning laws had representatives on campus, including some of Louisiana’s biggest recruiters.

“When you research talent in Louisiana, an LSU Law student is somebody who is very highly regarded. In our Baton Rouge office, a fair amount of our lawyers are LSU graduates, so we always love to come back and recruit from LSU,” Rae Vasquez, attorney at Jones Walker and 2002 graduate of LSU Law, said.

In addition to law firms, representatives from the Army, Navy and Marine Corps were also in attendance to talks to students about the branches’ Judge Advocate General’s Corps programs.

“They become very well versed and practice in military law and they also have the opportunity to practice law outside of the military in the civilian sector while they’re still in the military, so it’s an incredible opportunity for them to expand their resume when it comes to law,” U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Devon McIntyre said.
