Congratulations to the Law Center’s National Civil Mock Trial Invitational Competition team of Rachel Stafford Day, Ashley Knarr, Adam Ross, and Jeffery “Beau” Wheeler, who placed second in the nation at this past weekend’s competition, which was held at Florida State University College of Law in Tallahassee, FL.  The LSU Law Center was one of twelve law schools selected to participate in this invitation-only competition based on the strength of its trial advocacy program.

The Law Center’s National Civil Mock Trial Invitational Competition team was coached by Mr. Jason Hessick (’08) of the East Baton Rouge Public Defender’s Office and Ms. Kathryn Sheely (’06) of the Baton Rouge Capital Conflict Office.

The Law Center’s team faced off against and defeated teams from the Georgetown University Law Center, Charleston School of Law, Florida Coastal School of Law, and Faulkner University Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, and were narrowly defeated in the championship round by Fordham University School of Law.  The Law Center’s team was consistently complimented by the judges for their professionalism and their unified theory of the case being argued.  This year’s case file was a particularly complicated beach access rights case, involving claims of false arrest and malicious prosecution against a private security guard employed by a beachfront condominium complex.
