Jonathan Love

Class of 2011
Shreveport, Louisiana

Background: Received bachelor's degree from Baylor University, majoring in finance and real estate; received MBA from the University of Notre Dame; has real estate licenses in Louisiana and Texas; served as legislative intern for former Rep. Jim McCrery; worked in Cape Town, Africa for Ikamva Labantu, a non-profit organization; lived and worked in Kingston, Jamaica teaching an entrepreneurship class to Jamaican graduate students; backpacked around the world before starting law school.

Why Law School: It seems that business and law are so intertwined today that an education in both would make me more of a well-rounded corporate attorney. I decided to get an MBA before starting law school because I thought it would help me get the bigger picture before learning the intricacies of law.

Why LSU Law: I want to eventually practice corporate law or international law, and with LSU's civilian ties to predominately civil law countries such as South Africa and most of South America, LSU was the best fit for me. The large alumni network here is also pretty incredible. This Law Center has a strong network of alumni who prefer to hire LSU Law students as interns and associates.

The Faculty: Much of the faculty here are not only well respected in their respective fields, but they are all also very helpful and entertaining in class. Professors Ray Diamond and Randall Trahan are some of the most engaging and passionate professors, along with Professor Grace Barry, who did an excellent job teaching us the practical skills in legal research and writing.

Just for Fun: For people like me who have never lived in Baton Rouge, it is a pleasant surprise—events like the weekly GIF's on Fridays and "Live After Five" concerts downtown. Even though it's tough to beat tailgating and a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium, when the spring rolls around, the weather allows for just about any outdoor activity.
