Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Hamburg; Chair for civil law, private international law and comparative law; Judge (part-time) at the Court of Appeal of Hamburg; Executive Vice-director of the European Centre for Tort and Insurance Law in Vienna; Germany's National Correspondent at UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law); Co-speaker of the International Max-Planck-Research School for Maritime Affairs in Hamburg; Member of the German Council for Private International Law, of the European Group on Tort Law and of the European Acquis Group.
