LSU Law Center Announces 2014 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and Distinguished Achievement Honorees

Cordell H. Haymon will be honored as the 2014 LSU Law Center Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and the Honorable James J. “Jim” Brady, Maryam Sabbaghian Brown, Craig W. Murray and Patrick S. Ottinger will be honored for Distinguished Achievement at an awards luncheon on Sunday, September 21, at the LSU Lod Cook Conference Center in Baton Rouge.

“This year’s honorees once again embody the qualities of professional achievement and integrity that make all of us proud to be members of the LSU Law family,” said LSU Law Center Chancellor Jack Weiss.

222 Students Receive Degrees at 2014 LSU Law Center Commencement Ceremonies

The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center awarded degrees to 222 students during Commencement ceremonies held May 30, 2014, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Robert “Bob” Barnett, the noted Washington, D.C. attorney who has represented Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, along with a host of other government officials and media and television celebrities, served as Commencement speaker. LSU Law alum and political author and commentator James Carville (’73) introduced Mr. Barnett.

Memorial Service for Professor Emeritus James Bowers

A memorial service for Professor Emeritus James Winfield Bowers will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church, 205 N. Fourth Street, Baton Rouge, at 11:00 am on Friday, June 27.  Visitation begins at the church at 9:30 am.

Professor Bowers passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, in Bristol, Virginia. He taught at the LSU aw Center for 30 years before joining the faculty at Appalachian School of Law when his wife, former LSU Law Center Professor Lucy McGough, was appointed Dean in 2012.
