Join Us for Commencement, Friday, May 30

Members of the LSU Law community are invited to join us in celebration of the 2014 Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 30. Be a part of the celebration in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, or tune in via live streaming. Ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m.

Robert B. Barnett, the noted Washington, D.C. attorney who has represented Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, along with a host of other government officials and media and television celebrities, will deliver the commencement address.

Mr. Barnett will be introduced by James Carville ('73), who with his wife Mary Matalin, is a longtime client of Mr. Barnett.

Also taking part in the ceremony are the LSU Law Golden Graduates from the Class of 1964.

Commencement Time: 9:30 a.m.

Robert B. Barnett, “Attorney to the Nation’s Most Influential People,” to Deliver 2014 LSU Law Commencement Address

Robert B. Barnett, the noted Washington, D.C. attorney who has represented Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, along with a host of other government officials and media and television celebrities, will deliver the 2014 LSU Law Commencement.

Considered by many as “the attorney to the nation’s most influential people,” Barnett has a diverse practice, representing individuals and national and international corporations on issues ranging from publishing and media relations to litigation, contracts and crisis management. In addition, Barnett has worked to prepare presidential and vice presidential candidates for televised debates in eight national presidential campaigns.

“Bob Barnett occupies a unique niche among the nation’s lawyers,” said Chancellor Weiss. “He is a trusted counselor to dozens of globally-known clients on their most sensitive matters. It’s a great honor to welcome Bob as our 2014 graduation speaker,” Weiss said.

Law Center’s Tracy Evans to Assume New Role on LSU Campus

Long-time LSU Law employee Tracy N. Evans has been named the Executive Director of Development for the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.  Ms. Evans begins her new role on June 2.

Ms. Evans has served as Director of Professional and Bar Relations in the Office of Alumni Relations for the past four years.  Prior to joining the Office of Alumni Relations, she served as Director of Career Services for some 15 years, a position that afforded her an opportunity to interact with law students on a daily basis.  She assisted countless graduates with job searches, and she’s been a valuable addition to our Alumni program.  Please join us in wishing Tracy the best at email Tracy.Evans@law.lsu.edu


Professor Emeritus James Winfield Bowers: January 9, 1942-May 8, 2014

LSU Law Center Professor Emeritus James Winfield Bowers passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, in Bristol, Virginia.

During his three decade career at the Law Center, Professor Bowers taught numerous courses including Bankruptcy, Contracts, Uniform Commercial Code-Sales, Louisiana Mortgage Law, and a Legal Scholarship Seminar.

LSU Law Center Gains Four Spots to #72 in 2015 U.S. News Law School Rankings

The LSU Law Center continues its upward trajectory in the latest national rankings of law schools, moving up four spots to #72 in the 2015 U.S. News rankings.  The #72 ranking is the highest in LSU Law history.  The U.S. News ranking of top law schools is a closely watched list among the nation’s public and private law schools.

Graduates from the classes of 1974, 1984, 1994, 2004 and 2009 will celebrate their respective class reunions on October 24 and 25, 2014.

Friday, October 24
Reunion participants may attend a free CLE in the afternoon. Class receptions will be held in the evening.

All Alumni Tailgate & Hats-n-Canes Event prior to the LSU v. Ole Miss game.

Louisiana Bar Foundation Honors Professor William Corbett and LSU Law Alum Frank Neuner, Jr. (’76)

The Louisiana Bar Foundation honored Professor William Corbett as Distinguished Professor and Frank Neuner, Jr. (’76) as Distinguished Attorney at the 28th Annual Fellows Gala on April 11, 2014. The gala was held at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.

Recognition is given to those individuals who, by reason of his or her professional activities, have distinguished themselves in their chosen profession and have brought credit and honor to the legal profession

For example:  John Doe (’99), Mitchell & Mitchell, was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America 2010 in the areas of Intellectual Property Law and Technology Law.

We also welcome a current photograph to accompany your news submission.  Photos must be at least 3 inches wide, 300 DPI (or at least 900 pixels in quality).
