Graduate Gives Back to Law Center and Community

Ask any associate or friend of Allen Lewis Smith, Jr. to describe the man and you will receive a variety of stories that leave one wondering if they are all about the same person.

The summary of them would go something like this: Smith, a 1964 graduate of the LSU Law Center, is a great trial lawyer and highly respected by attorneys, judges, and juries alike. He was an entrepreneur from an early age, helping manage a successful snowball business. He is a great joke teller, an avid motorcyclist, loves to hunt, learn new things, and last but not least, is responsible for the success of NFL Hall of Famer Jim Taylor.

New Alumni Directory Underway

It has been almost 10 years since our last alumni directory was published. Work has begun on the 2009 LSU Law Center Alumni Directory, which will help you stay in touch with fellow LSU Law grads, while also helping the Law Center to better communicate with you.

The directory will contain complete listings of all alumni from LSU Law, including e-mail addresses and professional and personal biographical information. Our goal is to make this new alumni publication the most comprehensive graduate reference available.

The Law Center has contracted with Harris Connect, LLC to produce the directory. In January, you will receive an email from Chancellor Jack Weiss inviting you to visit the Harris Connect Webpage to update your information for the directory. The email will contain a personalized password for you to gain secure access to the site.

We encourage you to update your information, and appreciate your participation in this worthwhile project.

Law Center Shows Strong Support for Capital Area United Way

Law Center staff and faculty can all be proud of the impressive showing that was made in this year’s Capital Area United Way campaign. In a particularly difficult year, LSU Law rallied to aid our community by supporting the United Way in a powerful way.

The number of Law Center employees giving to the United Way this year has more than tripled since 2007. About 45 percent of us at the Law Center chose to support the United Way this year with a total of $11,985 pledged–nearly doubling the total dollar amount contributed in 2007.

Thanks to all who have made a pledge or contribution; this is a remarkable display of generosity to our community.
