Lancaster Named Director of Clinical Legal Education Program

LSU Law Center Chancellor Jack M. Weiss announced recently the appointment of Robert E. Lancaster as Director of the LSU Law Center's Clinical Legal Education Program and Professor of Professional Practice. Chancellor Weiss recommended the appointment during a recent meeting of the LSU Board of Supervisors in Shreveport. The appointment will be effective July 1, 2008.

Lancaster currently is a Clinical Professor of Law at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. "Professor Lancaster has the vision, energy and experience to build a model clinical program at the LSU Law Center," Weiss said. "He has supervised both live client clinics and externship programs during his outstanding career as a clinical legal educator. We are immensely excited about introducing Professor Lancaster to our students and to the Louisiana legal community."

LSU Law Center Confers Degrees at Commencement Exercises, May 22

The Paul M. Hebert Law Center awarded degrees to 190 students at commencement exercises held May 22 in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. One hundred eighty-three students received the Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.). Seven students - representing five countries, including France, Argentina, Canada and China - received the Master of Laws (LL.M.).

LSU System President John Lombardi Addresses Young Alumni Leadership Council

"LSU is in the game, and we must compete in that game," said John Lombardi, president of the LSU System. Lombardi addressed the Law Center's Young Alumni Leadership Council at its May 10, 2008 meeting. The advisory group convened for its second meeting since being appointed by LSU Law Chancellor Jack Weiss in 2007.

Bennett Named Chair of Law Center Young Alumni Leadership Council

Norma Bennett, a 2000 graduate of the LSU Law Center, was recently named chair of the Law Center's Young Alumni Leadership Council by Chancellor Jack M. Weiss.

CNN Analyst, Author Jeffrey Toobin Visits Law Center

Roe v. Wade, Bush v. Gore, Obama v. Clinton and Toobin v. Delay were just some of the topics addressed recently when Jeffrey Toobin—CNN analyst and author of The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court—sat down for a candid conversation with Law Center Chancellor Jack Weiss.

Ceremony and Conference Honor Professor Litvinoff

On April 3, 2008, the LSU Law Center faculty, friends, former colleagues and distinguished alumni gathered in the Tucker Room to commemorate the publication of a volume of Essays in Honor of Saúl Litvinoff.

Law Center Welcomes New Faculty Members

Four new faces will be navigating the winding, M.C. Escher-like corridors of the Law Center soon, placing a premium on breadcrumbs, Post-it Notes, and anything else useful in leaving a trail.

LSU Law Moot Court and Trial Ad Teams Win National and International Honors

LSU Law students traveled around the world this Spring semester representing the Law Center at Moot Court, Trial Advocacy, and Arbitration Competitions in cities such as New York, Houston, and Vienna, Austria. In all, students participated in 15 competitions receiving honors and recognition in virtually all of them.

Chancellor's Council Hosts CNN's Jeffrey Toobin, Nearly 200 Guests

LSU Law Center Chancellor Jack M. Weiss and Dean A. Sutherland, chairman of the Chancellor's Council, welcomed 188 guests to the annual black tie Chancellor's Council Dinner on Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center Hotel.
