Course Catalog – Parole Assistance and Re-entry

5626 Parole and Reentry Clinic (3)

This is an experiential clinical course in which students study the law and procedure applicable to the parole and pardon process and assist prisoners seeking early release before the Louisiana Board of Pardons and Committee on Parole. Students also provide assistance in other collateral, legal matters important for their successful community reentry. Topics relating to mass incarceration, punishment, the prison system, and criminogenic factors of recidivism are also covered in this course. Students learn effective lawyering skills such as interviewing and counseling clients, fact investigation, file management, and written and oral advocacy. This course is graded on the 4.0 scale. Participation requires the consent of the instructor. There is a mandatory Saturday orientation on the second or third Saturday of the semester.
