LSU Law Clinic Celebrates a Decade of Learning through Practice
The LSU Law Clinic held its first class in the 2008-09 academic year before officially opening its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 21, 2009. This year, the Clinic celebrates its 10th anniversary and marks a decade of legal learning through practice.
Eighteen students were part of the Law Clinic’s first semester. In the past 10 years, more than 650 students have participated in the Clinical program and have helped thousands of indigent clients with their legal issues in topics of juvenile defense, immigration, civil and family mediation, parole assistance and re-entry, prosecution, advocacy for victims of sexual assault, and more. During that same time, more than 1,600 students have enrolled in the Externship program.
To mark its 10th anniversary, the LSU Law Clinic will hold a ceremony Jan. 31, 2019, at the LSU Law Center, with the annual Louisiana Law Review symposium the following day. We invite all former Clinic students to share their memories of the Clinic with us by emailing Clinic Coordinator Brenda Salassi.
