Event Description

On Monday, February 26, 2024, the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal will hold oral arguments in the David Robinson Courtroom, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Students in the 1L class are required to attend these arguments in our Robinson Courtroom at the time and place indicated by their specific legal writing professor.  Other students are welcome to attend in the courtroom when space allows it.  Alternatively, 2L, 3L, and LSU undergrad students may go to the McKernan Auditorium to view a live stream of the arguments, some of which may be accompanied by live commentary from a retired state appellate court judge on the oral arguments as they happen to help students enhance their understanding of effective oral arguments.

For those students who attend in the Courtroom, please note the following:

  • Dress respectfully – courtroom attire is not required, but avoid tank tops, cut offs, etc.
  • Backpacks, cell phones, weapons, food, and/or drink are NOT allowed in the courtroom.
  • While purses are allowed and will be searched, bringing them greatly slows down the entry process.
  • While laptops are allowed, they are strongly discouraged; if brought in, they will need to be powered up in the presence of security, which greatly slows down the entry process for all.
  • Student Ambassadors and/or Board of Advocates members will sit at a table in the student lounge to take any items that you may not/cannot take into the courtroom if you don't have a locker in which to store the items.
  • Please abide by all courtroom protocol including standing when the judges enter or exit the courtroom and being quiet during oral argument.
  • Provided it is necessary and you do it quietly and unobtrusively, you may enter/exit the courtroom even if another argument is in progress. Please do not let the courtroom door slam shut. This means you should see if anyone is behind you as you enter/exit. If you are the last person, please hold the door until it closes.
