Thomas J. “T.J.” Moran Endowed Superior Graduate Student Scholarship

T.J. Moran passed away in Baton Rouge on May 18, 2015 at the age of 84.  He was a noted philanthropist and a long-time supporter of LSU. In the 1970s, Moran began his ventures into the restaurant business, opening a Ruth’s Chris Steak House franchise that soon grew into an empire of restaurants throughout the south. His philanthropic work was legendary and included leadership roles for the LSU College of Business, Cancer Services of Baton Rouge, Boy Scouts, St. Jude, Cystic Fibrosis, Juvenile Diabetes, and Children’s Hospital, among others. He was an avid LSU sports fan, befriending both coaches and athletes. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and he was a proud Korean War veteran. His daughter, Erin Thrash Moran, a 1982 graduate of the LSU Law Center, established the endowed scholarship so that LSU Law students could be inspired by his legacy.
