“Sustainable Oil and Gas Development” focus of Liskow & Lewis Visiting Professorship in Energy Law Lecture: January 28
Scott Anderson and Mark Boling will deliver the annual Liskow & Lewis Visiting Professorship in Energy Law Lecture on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Law Center. The lecture, “Sustainable Oil and Gas Development”, will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the David W. Robinson Courtroom. The Liskow & Lewis Visiting Professorship in Energy Law was established through a generous gift from the Liskow & Lewis law firm. The Professorship provides funds to bring distinguished scholars in energy law and closely related fields to the Law Center on an annual basis as part of the LSU John P. Laborde Energy Law Center.
When LSU Law student Lauren Heinen (’15) learned of the opportunity to visit River Bend Nuclear Station in St. Francisville on November 5, she jumped at the chance. Coordinated by Professors Bob Sloan and Keith Hall, the field trip provided the students with insight into light water technology, uranium enrichment, fuel rod fabrication, the handling of spent fuel, and plant decommissioning, among others.
One of the world’s leading energy companies, Shell Oil, opened its doors on November 14, 2014, to 15 LSU Law students interested in careers in the energy sector. LSU Law alumnus J. Patrick Morris, Jr. (‘97), Senior Counsel, Upstream Americas Exploration, organized the tour of Shell’s state-of-the art training facility located in Robert, LA. Joining Morris in organizing the tour was fellow alumnus, J.T. Nesser, IV (’99), Shell’s Senior Legal Counsel, Upstream Americas – Deep Water.
The second Bringing the Rockies to the Bayou guest lecture series will be held Monday, September 22 at 12:40 p.m. in the McKernan Auditorum. Professor Alex Ritchie with the New Mexico School of Law will present, “Hydraulic Fracturing in Your Neighborhood.”
Law Center Announces $800,000 J. Bennett Johnston Science Foundation Gift Supporting the Laborde Energy Law Center
LSU Law Center Chancellor Jack M. Weiss today announced an $800,000 gift from the J. Bennett Johnston Science Foundation to the LSU John P. Laborde Energy Law Center. The gift establishes the J. Bennett Johnston Energy Law Endowment Fund in honor of Senator Johnston and will support student internships and externships in energy law and policy. The fund will serve as a challenge fund for the Law Center’s $20 million Energy Law Center fundraising campaign.

The LSU Laborde Energy Law Center and the Institute for Energy Law (IEL) co-hosted the 2014 Hartrick Symposium, “Career Paths for Young Attorneys in the Energy Sector,” on April 4 and 5 at the Law Center. Students from across the country attended the event.
The first Bringing the Rockies to the Bayou guest lecture series will be held Thursday, March 13 at 12:40 p.m. in room 106. Professor Uma Outka with the University of Kansas School of Law will present, “Intrastate Preemption in the Shifting Energy Sector.”
An information session on the new Graduate Certificate in Energy Law and Policy will be held Monday, March 10 at 12:40 p.m. in room 106. Eligibility and requirements for the certificate will be discussed.
