Congratulations to the Law Center’s Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition team of Briana Drescher, Phung Duong, Lindsay Elliott-Smith, Cristian Galleguillos, and Nathan Judge, who received an award for the fifth place best brief at the United States Rocky Mountain regional rounds of the Jessup Competition, which was held Feb. 18-21 in Denver, CO. The Law Center’s Jessup team very narrowly missed (by only 1 round point!) moving on into the advanced and international rounds of the competition.
Congratulations to the Law Center’s National Tax Moot Court Competition Stutes-Kalinka Tax Team of Lauren Duncan, James Holzer, and Danielle Sczesny, who finished this past weekend’s national tax moot as one of the top four teams in the country! The Stutes-Kalinka Tax Team is supported in part by the generous gift of alumnus Rusty Stutes (’91), who endowed the team in memory of the late Professor Susan Kalinka.
Congratulations to the Law Center’s American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition “Gold” team, consisting of second-year students Lauren Accardo, Brandon Pierre-Thomas, and Doug Nielsen, who ranked as a finalist team in the NAAC’s regional rounds, which were held Feb. 18-20, 2016 at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA. Team member Brandon Pierre-Thomas was also recognized as the tenth place best oralist overall at the competition. The Law Center’s “Purple” team of Leah Brett, Sinnott Martin, and Richard Sprinkle also competed at the Philadelphia regional rounds.

Congratulations to the Law Center’s John L. Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy Competition “Purple” team of Charlotte Farshian, Ryan Harris, and Angelina Valuri, who ranked as one of the top eight prosecution teams nationally at the Costello Competition, which was held February 4-7 in Fairfax, VA, just outside Washington, D.C.
LSU has named Thomas C. Galligan Jr., currently the president of Colby-Sawyer College, as the next dean of the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, effective July 1.
Congratulations to the Law Center’s American Bar Association Competition team of Robert Cavell, Caitlin Cline, Rome Gonsoulin, and Matthew Roth, who placed fifth in the nation at the Arbitration Competition’s national championships, which were held Jan. 20-23, 2016, at the American Bar Association’s headquarters in Chicago, IL.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today on a case presented by LSU Law alumni and former participants in the Center’s Juvenile Defense Clinical Legal Education program. LSU Law alums squared off on both sides of Montgomery v. Louisiana (case No. 14-280).
The Legal Ease, a podcast of the Louisiana Law Review, is now available free to alumni and the broader community. The Legal Ease is an academic podcast aimed at apprising legal students and professionals of relevant legal topics.
