Admiralty Moot Court teams win first and second place best brief; Purple team places as semifinalists

A group of eight people smile for a photo with a courtroom in the backgroundCongratulations to the Law Center’s John R. Brown National Admiralty Law Moot Court Competition “Purple” and “Gold” teams, who competed with great success at this year’s Admiralty Moot, which was held March 23-25, 2017 in New Orleans.

The Law Center’s “Purple” team — students John Nickel, Josie Serigne and Jessie Finley — was awarded the Maritime Law Association of the United States Best Brief Award. The Purple team also won a semifinalist award, and missed advancing into the championship round of the competition by just 0.06 of a point

The Law Center’s “Gold” team — students Arielle Minor, Caroline Darwin and Jonathan Cobb — won an award for the Second Place Respondent’s brief.

The Law Center’s John. R. Brown Admiralty Team is coached by adjunct professor Dean Sutherland (’75) of Jeansonne & Remondet LLC, with assistance from Phillip Smith (’16) of NeunerPate Attorneys at Law.
