LSU Law Among Top 10 Most Underrated Law Schools

The LSU Law Center has been rated #8 on a list of the Top 10 Most Underrated Law Schools in the country based on outcome measures and how well the school prepares its students. The output and success measures in the study provide a baseline score of the LSU Law Center’s quality compared to the other 194 approved American Bar Association schools.

Alfred Brophy, University of North Carolina Professor of Law, examined students’ employment outcomes, their median scores on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), and the number of citations that the school’s law review receives. In summary, says the author, these factors are “the essence of a law school’s worth.” Brophy applied the three measures of success to grade law schools and compared those measures to their U.S. News rankings.

The employment factor was based on the number of 2014 law school graduates who received permanent jobs that required passage of the bar examination. The LSAT factor was based on median LSAT scores of students of the entering 2014 class, applied as a predictor of how well many first year students perform in law school. The number of law review citations assessed the school’s prestige factor.

Some 94% of the 2014 graduates of the LSU Law Center were employed as of 10 months after graduation. Of those, 79% were employed in a full-time, long-term job where bar passage was required. The median LSAT of the entering LSU Law Class in fall 2014 was 155.

The Law Center has consistently ranked within the top 100 American law schools in U.S. News & World Report rankings and as a top 10 “Best Value Law School” by National Jurist/Prelaw Magazine.
