In the summer of 2011, Professor Holmes taught Business Associations I. During the fall semester, he taught Contracts and Commercial Paper. During the spring, his courses were Obligations (which he last taught in 2006) and Commercial Paper. With Professor Morris, he published the annual supplements to Volumes 7 & 8, Louisiana Civil Law Treatise: Business Organizations (West Group 1999). Professor Holmes was a member of the Promotion and Tenure Committee, Chair of the Law Review Committee and Faculty Advisor to the Law Review, Chair of the Library Committee, and a member of the Bar Exam Review and Revision Committee. During the fall, he presented the lecture on “Business Organizations” for CCPD’s Recent Developments Seminars in Baton Rouge, Kenner, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe and New Orleans.
After graduating from law school, Professor Holmes joined the Jackson, Mississippi law firm of Butler, Snow, O'Mara, Stevens & Cannada, where he was a partner from 1981-1983. From 1983-1987, Professor Holmes served on the law faculty at the University of Mississippi. He joined the LSU faculty in 1987, after spending the Fall 1986 semester as a visiting professor. He is the co-author of West's Louisiana Civil Law Treatise on Business Organizations, and has published a number of articles on contracts, agency, business associations, and commercial law. He was a member of the Mississippi Secretary of State's Business Law Reform Task Force in 1986, and has lectured extensively in continuing legal education programs.
