Many software packages such as Microsoft Office, anti-virus software, and Windows OS upgrades are available to students, faculty, and staff through LSU licensing arrangements. Most are available through TigerWare, the university’s software distribution website. TigerWare downloads are accessed using the myLSU logon ID.
LSU provides current faculty, staff, and students with Symantec Endpoint Protection for use on their personal computer. Before installing this, you must completely uninstall any existing antivirus software on your computer.
Network Drive Access Software
Students, faculty, and staff can access the Law Center file server securely and remotely using SFTP. The file server provides both group and private storage that is directly accessible from Law Center computers. Remote access requires an SFTP program—any will do, but we recommend WinSCP for Windows users and CyberDuck for Mac users. Both programs are free.

Windows Updates/Apple Software Updates
Both Windows and Mac computers need to keep current on operating system updates. To keep your Windows laptop protected from security threats, Windows Updates should be installed on a regular basis. This is done by running the Windows Update application in Windows and on Macs by running Apple Software Updates from the Apple menu in the upper left corner.
Online Backup Services
Something all users should consider is an online backup service. These companies provide file backup services via a broadband Internet connection to their servers. The Law Center does not officially endorse any online backup service but a few examples are Carbonite, Mozy, IDrive, and CrashPlan. Backup and protect your data!
