The final round of the 2014 Opening Statement Competition will be held at 6:00 pm in the Robinson Courtroom. A small reception will precede the final round, and will begin at 5:30 pm in the Student Lounge.
The Opening Statement Competition is the Law Center’s introductory advocacy skills competition. Open only to second-year students, the competition asks students to prepare and present a seven-minute opening statement in a criminal trial. (This year’s case involves a homicide in which the defendant is claiming he killed in self-defense.) Students present their opening statements to panels of area attorneys and judges. The top five students for the prosecution and the top five students for the defense will present their arguments in the final round.
